ON OUR DOORSTEP In Ballyconneely…..
A “get away from it all”walk to the seashore.
Turn left on exiting Beachcomber Cottages.
Walk 2 minutes and you will come across a boreen (small country lane) on your left.
This boreen will give you two walking options.
- By keeping to this lane, it takes 10minutes to walk to the shore.
- For a half hour walk to the shore, go down this lane then turn right on to a grassy lane. It links up to another small road so take a left and walk down to the sea. Beautiful views of the ruins of Bunowen Castle.
Beach Walks
For a lovely stroll on white sandy beaches, take a less than 5 minute drive to Connemara Golf Club. Turn left on exiting Beachcomber Cottages, drive straight until you see a sign for the Golf Club. Turn right and continue on. When you reach the entrance gate to the Golf Club, take road to the left. . Park anywhere here and walk the string of pristine beaches. The Point trekking center is at the end of this road.
Or instead of turning down towards the Golf Club continue on towards beautiful Bunowen Bay, beach and Pier. At the pier you will see the rear of Bunowen Castle and the beach where our famous Pirate queen Grainne Mhaol (Grace O’Malley) once harbored her ships in the 16th Century. Connemara Smoke House is also located here.
Horse riding on white sandy beaches.
Walk, canter or trot along the beaches on some of our gentle Connemara ponies. Connemara ponies are known worldwide for their versatility and good disposition. Clifden hosts the famous Connemara Pony Show Day on the third Thursday every August.
This is truly an amazing experience, particularly on a nice sunny day.

Seaweed Baths
If you don’t fancy a dip on our beautiful but cold Atlantic Sea, take the warmer option of submerging your body into a bath of organic, hand-harvested Atlantic seaweed to remove unwanted toxins and alleviate aches and pains. Less than 5 minute drive away.

Want a bite to eat?
Both Connemara Golf Club and Connemara Sands Hotel have lovely menus to select from plus both have lovely beaches beside them to walk any indulgences off!
Keoghs Pub & Shop in the village of Ballyconneely is renowned for its bar food (I would highly recommend the Seafood Platter). It also has great music on selected nights.
